MASTER AMATEUR BOXING ASSOCIATION

Mission Statement

The mission of the Master Amateur Boxing Association is to develop and advance the growth of the sport of

Master Amateur Boxing through communication and education. To provide leadership in the promotion of Master Boxing events

 and the promotion of communication within the sport. The association will establish a platform for opinion exchange, t

he ability to promulgate proposed rules and provide recognition opportunities.

The following principles shall guide the MABA toward the attainment of these goals.

  1. To maintain a membership population representative of all levels of competition.
  1. To promote the sport of master boxing within the framework of education and communication.
  1. To encourage participation within the highest level of competition.
  1. To develop greater interest, understanding and support of the sport of Master Amateur Boxing.

Rules for Master Boxers 

Participation is limited to the local level. There is no advancement to regional or national level competition.

  1.   If a boxer will turn 35 during a tournament, the boxer may not enter the tournament.
  2.   The age difference between contestants shall be no more than ten (10) calendar years. A boxer may compete against opponents who are no more than ten (10) years younger or ten (10) years older.
  3.   All official rules apply to Master boxers except the following:
    •   Bouts will be limited to boxing three rounds of two-minute duration.
    •   16-oz. competition gloves will be used for all weight categories.
    •   Boxers must pass an annual medical exam and be declared "fit to box" via submission of the examination form with the following elements before being registered to box:
      • No history of diabetes, high blood pressure or chest pain
      • No history of chronic headaches
      • Blood pressure less than 145/90
      • Graded exercise EKG every five (5) years beginning at age 45
  4.   The passbook of the master boxer must contain the signature of the examining physician who performed the annual physical and the results placed on file with the LBC, along with the boxer's registration application. The signature shall be entered in the appropriate section under annual physical examinations.
  5.   Pre-bout examinations shall be the same as those performed on all other classifications of boxers.
  6.   Master boxers may not compete against boxers younger than 35 years of age.
